McNicoll – A Vehicle Hire Company With Over 50 Years In The Business
Founded in 1971 by Dick McNicoll, McNicoll Self Drive provided Linlithgow and the surrounding area with daily hire cars and vans. After serving the community for 35 years, the company was acquired by David Stewart and family in 2006 who continued the hard work that Dick had invested into the company for decades prior.
In 2012, McNicoll became a limited company and grew the fleet of 22 vehicles with an additional acquisition in 2014 of another much-loved local hire firm, Condor Self Drive – a company which shared the same values of providing a platinum service to its customers.
With daily rentals in demand, McNicoll opened a third site in Newtongrange to accommodate the growing number of customers looking for quality vehicle hire in Central Scotland.
In 2018, McNicoll Vehicle Hire opened up a new commercial site in Livingston, expanding the fleet to 400 vehicles, and employed staff with experience in the commercial sector to help facilitate the growth of the business.
A year later saw the fleet grow to 700 vehicles as McNicoll increased its customer base, servicing the commercial, daily rental and tourism sectors with car, minibus and van hire.
In 2021, McNicoll opened a new branch at Newbridge, close to Edinburgh Airport – the perfect location from which to offer reliable, affordable vehicle hire at the outskirts of the city, in particular for domestic and international travellers landing at Edinburgh airport.
After two years of continued growth between the various sites of operations, McNicoll was acquired by Avis Budget Group in September of 2023.
As of 2024, McNicoll has taken its first steps into becoming a nationwide brand in its own right, highlighting its stellar reputation as a van hire specialist in the UK, after having previously been a household name within its native Scotland.
